There are also amazing hiking opportunities commencing from the Vršič pass, including to Monte Prisani (we didn’t get to do any hikes from here, unfortunately). Connecting the Sava and Soča Valleys, the Vršič pass (read our guide here) includes 50 hairpin bends which lead to the most amazing views from 1,600m+. Stop into Pekarna bakery in Bohinja Bistrica for some local baked goods for lunch (börek for the win). Alternatively, Castle Rock Apartments are very clean, and centrally located in the heart of Bled. The sunsets in Lake Bohinj are something else, and the best place to enjoy it is from Hill Peč, which really does provide a panoramic over Bohinj during golden hour.
After lunch, either head to the beautiful local waterfall of Slap Kozjak, or start the drive back to the capital, Ljubljana. Located 10 minutes from Kranjska Gora is the stunningly beautiful Lake Jasna. After arriving in Bohinj, check out the 700-year-old church of St. John the Baptist located next to the historical stone bridge in Stara Fužina. The ride to Vintgar is super easy, and passes through many smaller villages and farms, showcasing Slovenia’s beautiful, rustic countryside. Bohinj really comes alive in Autumn, when the shores of the lake and surrounding hills are covered in a thick burnt-orange cloud of foliage – it’s honestly one of the most beautiful sights we’ve ever seen.
We recommend stopping for lunch at Gostišče ob Planšarskem Jezeru in Zgornje Jezersko and admiring the views up the valley – it’s almost a mirror image of the Logar Valley. The scenery is breathtaking, as is the road, which includes a number of tight hairpins back towards the Slovenian border. In the afternoon, make use of the hotel wellness centre, or relax in the late afternoon sun before enjoying a meal – we recommend the local mushroom soup which tastes a little like heaven.
Lake Bled – 4 Days
We stayed in this comfortable apartment which included a kitchen near the centre of Kranjska Gora. Most experienced drivers will find the Vršič pass an easy drive, save for a few narrow bends and the odd cyclist. One of the key sights to stop at is the gorge of the Soča, which is the perfect place to admire the beauty and unique colours of the Soča River. We recommend you set yourself down and admire the alpine views and solitude, before taking on the 26 remaining hairpins of the pass below. A short walk from the main pass carpark is Poštarski dom na Vršiču, a charming mountain chalet that serves delicious food, beer and local herbal tea. The the left of the carpark is a small mountain meadow complete with wooden hut which makes for a wonderful photography location.

Lake Bled
Some of the best sites to check out are the Mary of the Snow Chapel, Vetrnica Cave, Luknja (hole), Dovja Griča Cave, and the Preskar Museum. There are lots of different hikes of different difficulties, including some longer ones with round-trip distances of 10+ kms and elevation gains of over 1,000 meters. Once there, you’ll have several hiking trails to choose from, all of which lead up to the plateau. You can also observe the traditional cheese production process and sample some local cheese.

There’s not much to see or do in town, but it’s situated in a spectacular natural setting surrounded by mountain peaks, and right nearby is the pretty Lake Jasna. If you pick Ljubljana as a base, which is somewhat more centrally located between all the attractions listed, only Vintgar Gorge and Lake Bohinj will be farther to drive to than if departing from Lake Bled. On our visit in July it was very warm in Ljubljana and this would have been a fun, refreshing way to see the city. You have one hour to complete the challenge. Your goal is to complete the puzzles and save the dragon. Not only will you find love locks attached to the bridge, but you will also see several unique statues by artist Jakov Brdar. THE UPPER SOČA VALLEY
As you reach this part of the country, you’ll have begun to enter the Karst region, so pay attention to how the scenery changes. From Bovec, it takes about 2.5 hours to reach the Slovenian coast, but you will barely notice the time, as this drive through the Soča River Valley is probably the most scenic one in the entire country. Again, the walk here won’t take very long, but the setting you’ll find yourself in is truly unbelievable.
Day 3 – Kranjska Gora, Vršič Pass, and Bovec

Then spend the afternoon enjoying the lakeside, hiring a paddle boat and admiring the surroundings from the lake, including a quick visit to Blejski Otok.
